Stepping Up

Communication Capers

10 Dec

You’re being called to ‘play bigger’. And, it’s scary as sh*t.

Because you’re an introvert, right?

They’re telling you gotta get out there and knock off some attention-getters in social media land.

You can see it now … You, the fresh-faced selfie girl, chalking up your frequent flyer miles on Instagram. Not!

But, looky here. You’re serious about developing your brand. So get your motor running — you’ve got a career ahead of you on the small screen.

Gulp …

You feel confident and outgoing. Sometimes. Other times, not so much.

What the heck do you do, then? When you’re not wired up to get out there and strut your stuff?

You either adapt and change – and flourish – or, you don’t.

So you might as well put on your “big girl pants” and lean into your growing edge.

Giddy up!

♥♥♥♥♥

We learn how to do most new things by doing them.

If “wounds really are our superpowers”, then how about digging into that?

Giving voice to what it freakin’ feels like to speak into a camera lens when you’re not picture-perfect. Maybe you’re messy or off-kilter or simply not up for the exposure.

You gin up your nerve to speak from that space.

And, make no mistake. We’re talking about the whole, sloppy enchilada. Not some glossy, photo-shopped version of it.

Remember that cool-ass, 7-figure podcaster? Who lured listeners with the pledge that she was about to get as “real as she’d ever been” on a show about her “worst day”?

Oh, yummy! Can’t wait …

You perched on the edge of your seat — table set, poised to tuck into a satisfying and nutritionally dense, confessional stew. Only to discover that her pinnacle of agony revolved around an over-committed calendar. And a couple of boxing matches with her husband.

Kind of a yawner.

She upped the ante by tossing in an admission or two about body dysmorphia and fears of failure.

But, you weren’t feelin’ it.

Because, it’s not talking about something that embodies the heft to carry our vulnerability. But, speaking from the inside of that space.

The difference between a pin drop and a shotgun blast.

So maybe you’re the one to step-up? Open a window onto your inner landscape. Air out a few of those private, big-gulp moments.

Allowing full-frontal access as you falter, fail or attempt to navigate off the edge.

You risk having a ‘candid camera’ moment whenever you keep company with Presence and Authenticity.

But don’t run away. Accept your wounds and let bravery be your shield.

Rumi

You discover that even in the stare of a thousand eyeballs, there’s never enough tinder to incinerate your True North.

I mean, whose Life is this anyway??

You’re the star of your own show, baby. You, bearing witness to the Self now, as It unfolds. Ceaselessly showcasing.

Now, that’s some riveting footage!

We discover that stepping up is actually Stepping Out – out of the limiting beliefs and in-fear-iority that have roped us in, kept us small.

Unaware of the Light we shine. Of the Light that we are.

♪Me babe, steppin’ out, into the Night, into the Light. You babe, steppin’ out, into the Night, into the Light …♪

Joe Jackson (Stepping Out)

I have come to bring out the beauty you never knew you had. And lift you, like a prayer to the sky.
