We didn’t chart our course in 2020. It was it thrust upon us without will.
We hadn’t decided not to drive. Or, to leave our jobs. Or say goodbye forever to a family member or friend.
An exhale without the inhale …
We cast about for the old normal – hoping it would come back soon to take care of us again.
But did we really think that Mother Nature would press the pause button on our whole world for no reason?
Casually ripping out the rug, jackhammering the floor, and excavating our foundation without cause?
Some consider this covid chapter a “Reset”.
An invitation for full stop. To engage a deeper conversation with life, away from distraction. Attune to the stillness, wakefulness that has always been here — just waiting in the wings.
To avail ourselves of a much-needed break from sorting through endless chaos and emergency.
An opening to enquire, ‘who am I Being’? Instead of, ‘what am I doing’?
Whenever our ‘familiar’ is crumbling, it is not without agony – even when making way for something better.
We’ve been humbled by the extent of what we don’t know.
Wondering how each new day will play out. When cherished routines have morphed rhythm into a brand-new melody we have yet to catch on to.
Embarrassing ourselves, as we sing out of key.
I Don’t Know …
IDK how to move forward. When crusty, lifeless thought formations are stacked up and blocking my entrances and exits.
IDK how to connect. With acquaintances, once friends, now holding ground on the other side of a great divide.
Hiding ourselves, one from the other, behind our opinions.
IDK what choices to make. Which dictums to trust when fake news must be separated from reliable source.
But we’ve gleaned a thing or two, as well.
That we can trust ourselves. Guided, as we are, by our own ‘steady as she goes’ inner GPS.
We’ve come to appreciate how heartily our actions do count. That no human being is powerless – no matter how disenfranchised.
We’ve witnessed the large-scale, transformational impact of personal integrity and honor.
The faintest flutter of a butterfly wing reverberates across the entirety of a boundless sky.
We don’t always need to calculate ten paces ahead in order to dodge what’s coming out of left-field. Our next, fruitful step displays on cue. Unerringly, as we plant foot onto the solid ground that is right here, right now.
We’ve started taking better care of ourselves. Recognizing inner and outer wellness as our best defense to any offense.
More confident, too, in the evolutionary impulse in all things – even if we don’t know precisely what it is or how to name it.
Some of us are feeling ready to reengage with Life.
To take up our roles in an emerging play.
Bringing forth every drop of passion, mercy, heartful courage and appetite for Life that we can muster. As we boldly step into the magnificence of what lies ahead.
The sacred co-creation for which we took birth.
Then, you hold life like a face between your palms. A plain face, no charming smile, no violet eyes, and you say, yes, I will take you. I will love you, again.

For there is always light,
If only we’re brave enough to see it
If only we’re brave enough to be it.
